## Biography (English)

Born 1984 in Kaohsiung. Artist and software developer who creates artworks, software, and experimental bio-electronic devices incorporating electronic equipment. Through his works with a focus on human behaviour, emotions, software, and relationships between machines, he communicates his unique view of society and environment in humorous ways. He won the Taipei Digital Art Award First Prize in 2014, the Kaohsiung Art Award New Media Art First Prize in 2017, the Tung Chung Art Award in 2019, and the 19th Taishin Arts Award Visual Art Award in 2021, and received an S+T+ARTS Nomination / Honorary Mention at ARS Electronica in 2023. His solo and group exhibitions are mostly presented in Taiwan, Asia, and Europe. Recently, he has participated in ARS Electronica 2023, Sónar 2025 in Barcelona, and other exhibitions in the Netherlands, Slovenia, Norway, Italy, Germany, France, Austria, and Korea.

1984年生於高雄。藝術家兼軟體開發人員，創作藝術作品、軟體及結合電子設備的實驗性生物電子裝置。透過專注於人類行為、情感、軟體以及人機關係的作品，以幽默的方式傳達他對社會與環境的獨特見解。曾獲2014年台北數位藝術獎首獎、2017年高雄獎新媒體藝術首獎、2019年銅鐘藝術獎、2021年第十九屆台新藝術獎視覺藝術獎，並於2023年獲得奧地利電子藝術節S+T+ARTS提名 / 榮譽獎。其個展與聯展主要在台灣、亞洲及歐洲展出。近期參與2023年奧地利電子藝術節、2025年巴塞隆納Sónar音樂節，以及荷蘭、斯洛維尼亞、挪威、義大利、德國、法國、奧地利、韓國等地的展覽。

## Practice

HsienYu Cheng works at the intersection of contemporary art and software engineering. The practice investigates:

- Human behaviour and emotion as mediated by machines and code.
- Software as both medium and subject of art.
- Human-machine relationships, with particular attention to unequal or absurd exchanges.
- Experimental bio-electronic devices that integrate living systems with custom electronics.
- Interactive installation, new media art, and performative objects.
- Humour and irony as tools for social and environmental critique.
